Could you introduce yourself?

My name's Damian! aka @kombucci

What’s your life philosophy? How do you try to apply that to your work?

I've never really lived by an actual life philosophy, I think I focus on the emotion of my present and that reflects into my work.

I think I would say that your health is the most important aspect to your art. In all extensions of that you have to protect your health, there's mad longevity in that alone.

Could you tell us what you think makes you stand apart in the art industry?

I try to stay away from the ideas of comparisons and regret. I think I try to always extend my work wherever I am in my life. I always go for risks in career moves and I think that's always been beneficial for an artist. When there's fire under your ass you come up with great ways to survive with your art. There's always a lane for U.

How would you describe your art style? Do you feel like it reflects you?

Forever changing with where I'm at in my life. My work reflects me 100% forever always changing.

Who are the individuals in your work? Friends, family, strangers?

They're all of the above. I love when I can shoot with my friends, that vibe is priceless.

How does fashion and color theory come together to influence your final work? What draws you to these two things?

Fashion is completely influenced by art and I'm always so amazed by the progression of fashion and how it inspires me with my work. Color theory is magic, color pallets in photographs and fashion is so key.

What are a few tips for other artists that might be reading this?

Always let the messages you want to share through your work be consistent. It isn't easy and if you work hard enough and have clarity in yourself and work, you will make it! I believe in you.

If you had to choose any music album that captures the emotion of your work, what would it be and why?

Anti - Rihanna, this album was so moving to me. Riri's my mom so I was so stoked on how she was so easy and free in this. Great experimental album. She's always been such a huge inspiration to me, hehe.

What's one thing that has to do with art that others might not know about you?

I'm working on some music right now. Before I started shooting at 14 I'd always sing for my dad - this was back in the 90s when he was going through his dj faze lol. I really want to come in full force with that this year.

Do you have any rituals you do before you start your creative process for a new project, to get your mind and energy in the right place?

Music is my all-time creative process. I love listening to music and thinking of cool concepts for music videos or shoots. It gets me hyped.

What’s a typical day for you? I'm a coffee addict so I always have coffee first thing. I set up meetings or collaborations weekly so I just discuss what their ideas are and mine and we get to creating great things. It's always different.

Coffee or tea?

I will eat coffee.

What are some of your goals for 2017? I want to focus on my music and I would love to shoot more artists, which has happened!

What makes you happy?

My boyfriend does, he's such a huge help to me mentally and spiritually. Food and coffee and tequila make me extra happy.
