Could you introduce yourself?
We are an electronic duo from Napoli whose music incorporates psychedelic pop vocals, dark influences, computer music elements, and dream pop sensibility.
What’s your life philosophy? How do you try to apply that to your work?
Well, we're also a couple in real life so this actually play a major role in our music. We think our music comes straight from our unconscious, so it's not really a philosophy or a state of mind but it's all about feelings. All the things we love, music or other forms of art, can inspire our work but in general we stick with the idea that everything in our lives, good or bad, is part of this process.
Could you tell us what you think makes you stand apart in the music industry?
We just like to play, travel around the world, write music and perform on stage. We don't think it's our job to explain why we stand apart or not in the industry.
How would you describe your style? Do you feel like it reflects you?
Our style is definitely dream pop with a pronounced dark side. Everyone of us has their own background that somehow flows into the creative process. Of course it reflects us, it couldn't be otherwise. It's not simply our style. It's us. Our music it's our best taken picture.
Could you expand more on your newest music video, "Foglights"? What was the inspiration behind the work? The video of foglights is the brainchild of Francesco Lettieri, one of the most promising directors of the Italian scene. The lights, the location and the video images reflect perfectly the urban imagery of our music, so we are very pleased for the interpretation that the director gave to our song.
Plus the shooting was very interesting and funny because Mario, for reasons of "script" has learnt the lyrics backwards in order to be in sync in the second half of the video! It was absolutely freak out, not easy to forget!
How do you feel your sound has developed to where it is now? What has inspired your work as a whole? Golden Rain was born on the ashes our last project so it was not easy to shake off this background while keeping the best of it. But thanks to our perseverance, stubbornness and the collaboration with Christian Colamonici, really creative and talented guitarist, we have been able eventually to achieve our sound, that we hope could be recognizable from the first notes. This is one of our main goal.
What are a few tips for other artists that might be reading this?
Before giving suggestions to other artists we have to test ourselves, what we are learning along the way. If we could give a tip would be this: consistency, commitment, making music a daily routine. But above all, you have to love this stuff. Anyway, this is not scientific, but that's our way to get the job done.
What's one thing that has to do with music that others might not know about you?
Well maybe one thing somebody might not know is that making music could be boring as hell, especially working on the editing files and organized the same into the folders, or synchronize different instruments to each other. Sometimes we see our selves like a bunch of nerd rather than a bunch of punks. More in general, making music requires mental efforts, cause it may involves a lot of technical skills.
Do you have any rituals you do before you start your creative process for a new project, to get your mind and energy in the right place?
Not really, as we said, it's quite a natural process. Our creative process may happen while cooking, smoking, hitting the gym, making love or having a hot shower. It's just happens.
What’s a typical day for you?
The "Golden Studio" is also the place where we live, so our typical recording session starts with a nice lunch, continues with soundcheck and recordings until late evening and ends with excellent dinner, maybe some friends occasionally come to visit us and to listen to our jam, in a convivial atmosphere. We are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work in the comfort of a familiar environment.
Coffee or tea?
Well, we are still Italians, large consumers of coffee, black and hot but soon we are planning a promotional tour in China, thanks to our first release in Asia, via Pocket Records, so we will have a full experience of tea and spices.
What are some of your goals for 2017? What can we expect to see from you in the future?
To play a lot of gigs around the world, and to meet a lot of cool people. We are currently working on our first LP, so...the best is yet to come! What makes you happy? Any closing comments?
Actually we had some fun during this interview! So we are happy right now!
What we can say...stay tuned 'cause we have a lot of “golden stuff” to share with you!
