Who is Joan Didion?
Joan Didion is an American author who explores the meaning behind women and the social imbalance that is shown throughout history. So much of her literary work promotes the idea of dread and stress, you can tell there is power behind her words. When she says something, people listen to her, they listen to her ideas and she's made it known that she won't stop until the world changes to meet her ideals for all women.
Not only does she touch on the heated social climates, since the early 60s, she's also taken it upon herself to focus on the political states she has lived through, overall giving her a very unique prospective as a woman who is not only successful, but has the power to sway individuals in positions of power.
In addition to her series of fiction and nonfiction works, she's written a number of screenplays that have made a huge impact in the world of theater.
The documentary coming to Netflix is actually directed by Griffin Dunne, who is Didion's nephew, and the work will cover her life, the tragedies she's gone through and her work. We'll be having a marathon when this film comes out, will you?
"To free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves - there lies the great, singular power of self-respect."
"I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking, what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear."
